\"Abortion<\/p>\n

Abortion is Solely A Woman\u2019s\u00a0Decision<\/h2>\n

In the wake of all the recent bills passed to severely limit a woman\u2019s ability to have abortion it is important to remind everyone that an abortion is solely a woman\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n

Men can offer their opinion, but the only, and I mean only<\/em>, opinion that matters is that of the person who is pregnant.<\/p>\n

To illustrate my point, some years ago a man in New Mexico put this billboard up <\/a>after he learned his ex-girlfriend aborted their child.<\/p>\n

While I don\u2019t have a problem with him taking out the billboard, I do have a problem with the idea he had any rights regarding his girlfriend\u2019s decision to abort.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of men (and some women) who argue passionately about a man\u2019s right to have a say in whether a woman gives birth or not and once the child is born\u200a\u2014\u200aif he didn\u2019t want it\u200a\u2014\u200ahow he should be able to opt out of being financially responsible for the child.<\/p>\n

I call bullshit to both arguments and here\u2019s why:<\/p>\n

1. Men Do Have Choices<\/h3>\n

Contrary to popular belief, men do have choices.<\/p>\n

They\u00a0 can choose<\/em> to use protection.<\/p>\n

They can choose<\/em> not to have sex with women they don\u2019t want to procreate with.<\/p>\n

Hell, they can choose<\/em> to have a vasectomy. Their choices<\/em> are available to them pre-conception.<\/p>\n

Women also have choices pre-conception. They can choose<\/em> not to sleep with a man they don\u2019t want to have children with.<\/p>\n

They can choose<\/em> to always use protection\u200a\u2014\u200aa variety of protections. They can choose<\/em> to have their tubes ties or other methods of permanent birth control.<\/p>\n

So everybody<\/em> has choices<\/em> pre-conception. Everyone<\/em>. So all this men don\u2019t have a choice is bullshit. Whether or not they are choices you like is another conversation, but not liking your choices doesn\u2019t mean you don\u2019t have any.<\/p>\n

2. Everyone Is Legally Responsible. Only One Person Is Physically Responsible.<\/h3>\n

Men have no physical responsibility once conception occurs. As a matter of fact, unless she pursues child support, a man has no responsibility for a pregnancy or a child whatsoever.<\/p>\n

However, if a woman gets pregnant\u200a, the choices she has available to her both involve having her feet in stirrups weather she chooses to terminate the pregnancy or not. And both options affect her life with one choice impacting it for a minimum of 18 years.<\/p>\n

Legally both parties are held responsible for the child once the child is here; so women aren\u2019t getting away with anything if they choose to have a child.<\/p>\n

She is physically and financially responsible for the child once conception happens. At most a man legally only has a financial responsibility\u200a\u2014\u200aand this doesn\u2019t even include the time constraints of raising the child.<\/p>\n

But to have some of men tell it, it\u2019s not fair to have financial responsibility for a child you didn\u2019t want once you abdicated your choices that you had available to you from the beginning?<\/p>\n

Mind you the woman has been legally, financially, physically responsible for the child you both created from the very beginning\u200a\u2014\u200aeven if she has an abortion that\u2019s a physical and financial responsibility that the man does not have.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s unfair exactly?<\/p>\n

3. The One With The Uterus Makes The Rules<\/h3>\n

You know what’s funny? When we talk about money we understand that it is the one with the gold who makes the rules.<\/p>\n

But when it comes to pregnancy, everyone should have equal say even though everyone doesn\u2019t have an equal responsibility when it comes to having or not having a child.<\/p>\n

So here\u2019s the thing\u200a\u2014\u200athe one with the uterus makes the rules\u200a\u2014\u200aand if you have a serious problem with that as a man, then use your CHOICES from jump.<\/p>\n

Just like I tell my girls it\u2019s better to have your own than to rely on someone to make sure things are taken care; well men, it\u2019s better to have control over your own lives instead of bitching and moaning after the fact because you chose to toss your options aside.<\/p>\n
